Who can sign up for CABJ membership?
The Canadian Association for Black journalists offers six types of membership to Black, Canadian residents only. For Black journalists outside of Canada, CABJ Media Startup Bootcamp courses are priced at $55 each. If you are interested in the bundled course, a payment plan is available.
Are the courses open to everyone?
For now, we are prioritizing Black journalists and content creators. Should we decide to open up the program more broadly, we'll let you know!
How do I register for the courses?
Registration instructions are available on our ‘how to enrol’ page. For CABJ Members, the courses are free. For non-members, each course is $55. If you’re interested in CABJ membership, follow this link for more information prior to enrolling in a CABJ Media Startup Bootcamp website. A discount code to access all of the courses for free will be included in your welcome email.
Do I have to take all of the courses?
If you plan on applying for the CABJ Startup Grant, then you’ll need to take all of the courses. Otherwise, you’re free to sign up for whichever courses are of interest.
How will the courses be offered?
All of the courses are virtual and made available to be streamed via Podia. Once registered on Podia, you’ll complete your student profile to confirm your enrolment.
What happens if I miss the live presentation?
Not to worry! The courses will be made available for re-broadcast to registered applicants on Podia until November 30, 2020. Only the Gliding Through the Grant Writing Process course will not be available for re-broadcast.
How do I apply for the CABJ Startup Grant?
Once the courses are completed on November 26, applications will be open to participants who’ve taken all of the courses. Keep an eye on your email for more information on how to apply.
What happens if I need help after the course is over?
A group of mentors will be made available to each cohort after all of the courses are completed. We’ll email you information about how to connect with them beginning January 2022.
What currency are course prices listed in?
Prices are listed in CAD (Canadian Dollar) but payments are processed through Stripe. Stripe’s payment options are here.
Does the CABJ offer refunds?
Unfortunately, all course sales are non-refundable.
